With a state playoff spot on the line, hosting their biggest rival and honoring their seniors on senior night, Dreher entered their February 8 finale against A.C. Flora with a host of challenges. More ... A.C. Flora's Tiara Knotts led a third quarter comeback and scored five points in overtime to push the Falcons over Dreher 56- 55 in the final regular season game of the year. Knotts led all scorers with 24 points. Jasmine Stubbs chipped in 17 points and Kim Roach finished with nine for A.C. Flora who now enters the playoffs as the number four seed in the Upper State. More ... The Hammond Skyhawks improved to 9- 0 in region play with a 59- 42 victory over rival Heathwood Hall Friday, February 8. Daniel Bailey led the way with 18 points. Wilson McWilliams and A.D. Briggs added 11 points each for the Skyhawks. More ... Heathwood Hall eighth grader Asia Dozier scored 27 points to lead the Highlanders (25- 3, 8- 1) over nemesis Hammond 58- 52. Dozier went 10- for- 13 from the free throw line including six straight at the end of the game. Kristen Dickerson added 15 points for the Highlanders and Arayael Brandner got 13. More ... Hammond Head Coach Erik Kimrey had 10 seniors on this year's two- time SCISA 3A state championship team, now three of those seniors will play college ball. Kimrey said, "It's a big day for this school, but more importantly it's a big day for these kids. More ... Brookland- Cayce scored the game's first 11 points and ultimately withstood a valiant Lake Marion rally to win in the first round of the 3A state playoffs on February 12. Delanta McCoy's 29 points and the strong inside presence of T.J. Boykin led the Bearcats' attack. B.C. advances to host Darlington High School on February 15. More ... Cardinal Newman hosted Heathwood Hall Tuesday, February 12, looking to clinch second place in Region I- AAA in SCISA, which would give the Cardinals a bye into the semifinals. Unfortunately, they found themselves with a problem- they had only five regular players on their roster. All of the juniors on the team were at a schoolsponsored retreat. More ...
