Wednesday, November 28, the Cardinal Newman Cardinals hosted a wrestling bonanza featuring the A.C. Flora Falcons, Airport Eagles, and Rock Hill Bearcats. In the first round of matches, the Cardinals defeated the Falcons 69- 12, while the Bearcats conquered the Eagles, 58- 15.

The match started off well for the Cardinals, as Greg Regan won the heavyweight division with a pin. Following two forfeits and an Alexander Guerin pin at 119, Talley Lattimore stepped onto the mat with his opponent. The Falcon grappler held Lattimore in check for the majority of the match, leading on points through the first two periods.

But Lattimore, defending SCISA state champion at 125, came on strong at the end, getting a pin with 11 seconds left. The Cardinals rolled from there with pins being obtained by John Bolchoz at 171, James Williams at 189, and Rush Tompkins at 215, and Christopher Palevich winning by decision at 130. The Falcons won in the 135 and 160 weight classes with Dave Crossland and Nick Minor getting the pins, respectively. On the other mat, Rock Hill easily defeated Airport, 58- 15.

Then the winners squared off, and the Bearcats showed why they are ranked #5 in AAAA in S.C. Rock Hill won 75- 6 with pins in 11 of the 14 weight classes. The only points for Cardinal Newman were obtained by John Bolchoz, who won 171 with his second pin of the night.
