Lightning struck all around Heathwood Hall Friday, September 14, leading officials to delay the game until Sunday at 7 pm. Lightning struck again in the form of Heathwood Hall quarterback Brett Whalen. Whalen lit up the O- P defense for 236 yards passing with two touchdowns and 81 yards rushing with three touchdowns en route to a 52- 35 victory.

The Highlanders punted once in the rain to start the game Friday night, then proceeded to score touchdowns on their next seven possessions - one Friday night and the rest Sunday.

Heathwood Hall Head Coach John Daye gave Brett Whalen the rest of the night off after he and the Highlanders built a 49- 14 lead with 9:30 remaining in the third quarter.

Davis Ray was Whalen's primary target during the onslaught. Ray caught seven passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Ray forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, and intercepted a pass returning it 28 yards to the O- P 23- yard line.

While the defenses for both teams may have taken a day of rest during the Sunday, there were some stellar individual efforts besides Ray's. Linebacker David Barton wracked up 10 tackles. Walker Sojourner had eight tackles, one of which was for a loss. He also recovered a fumble and picked off an Indian pass with 1:33 remaining in the first half.

Offensively, Running back Will Kennemur averaged eight yards a carry for the Highlanders rushing for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Garrett Rawl went 7- for- 7 on extra point attempts and kicked a 23- yard field goal.

The Indians scored three touchdowns on three of their last four possessions and converted on one of two onside kicks, but the outcome was never in doubt.

Sophomore Mac Whalen entered the game at quarterback for Heathwood Hall with 3:20 remaining in the third quarter. He rushed seven times for 60 yards.

The Highlanders improve to 4- 0. Coach Daye said the short week should not have an effect on his team's preparation for SCISA No. 1 ranked Wilson Hall in Sumter Friday, September 21.
