McCain moves ahead
      U.S. Sen. John McCain (R- AZ) spoke to the Columbia Rotary at Seawell's, Monday, August 13. Ordinarily, the room fills with about 250 Rotary members, but to hear McCain the place was packed with 350, according to the club counter at the door.

Sam Davis, public servant
      Sam Davis has two profiles as a public servant. One, he is a state employee and has been for over 30 years. The other, he is Columbia's District II member of city council. Davis was born in Charleston, and was reared in the East Side, on Cooper Street not far from the cigar factory.

      Graham Van Schaik is being honored as a 2007 Davidson Fellow. The S.C. State Library Talking Book Services received the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Station of the Year Award. Felix and Cheryl Figueroa's property has been certified as an official Backyard Wildlife Habitat site by the South Carolina Wildlife Federation.
