2007 Sportsmanship award winner, Clark Gebel2007 Sportsmanship award winner, Clark Gebel The 11th Annual Columbia Midlands Soap Box Derby was held on Taylor Street June 9.

The awards banquet was held in First Baptist Church Saturday evening. Birds on a Wire Restaurant and Veta Holloway of Birds by Veta provided water and snacks.

The 2007 Sportsmanship Award was presented to Clark Gebel, a super stock driver, sponsored by the Irmo Optimist Club.

The local derby champions of Super Kids Race are Tyler White and Michael Lile, Lile who will represent S.C. in Akron; Rally Champ, Richard Koenke, earned the most points from different rallys in the Southeast throughout the year and will go to Akron.

Stock Division Champs first place driver was Hunter Kendall, sponsored by Done Right Services; second place driver, Jessica Pettit, sponsored by Vince Fine Construction & Cherokee Masonry; and third place driver, John Michael Browder, sponsored by Oxbow Ranch.

Super Stock Division Champs first place driver was Dennae Koenke, sponsored by Done Right Services; second place driver, Madson Schumacher, sponsored by Outdoor Wood; and third place driver, Christiana Kendall, sponsored by Done Right Services.

The three first place drivers of each division will go to Akron for the Derby Race Day Saturday, July 21.
