Annie May Hicks
A memorial service and a celebration of the life of Annie May Hicks, 83, was held Friday, June 8, 2007, at 4 pm at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, with visitation following the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, assisted the family.
Annie May was a native of Columbia and the daughter of the late Earnest Gandy Covington and the late James C. Covington, a civil engineer and state legislator. She was married to the late Dr. William S. Hicks Sr., owner of Magnolia Animal Hospital. She was a graduate of Dreher High School and Winthrop College.
A long time member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, Annie May was also a national flower show judge, past president of the Lilac Garden Club, Research and Study Club, and the Garden Council of Greater Columbia. She was a member of the Judges Club of South Carolina, a life member of the Garden Clubs of South Carolina and the National Council of Garden Clubs and Columbia Green. Annie May was also active in several bridge clubs and an avid reader.
Annie May leaves behind her daughter, Sandra Hicks Bryan of Blythewood; son and daughter- in- law, William and Jan Hicks of University Park, Florida.; son and daughter- in- law, Colonel (R) Robert and Donna Hicks of Colonial Heights, Virginia; a brother, James C. Covington Jr.; grandchildren, Will Bryan, Jason Bryan, Scott Hicks, Jessica Lisenbe, Leslie Gowdish, and Jennifer Huff; and great- grandchildren, Thomas and Rebecca Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garden Club Council of Greater Columbia or Winthrop University Foundation in memory of Annie May Hicks, 124 Tillman Hall, Rock Hill, S.C. 29733.
