Miss Dew and Mr. McGovern exchange vows June 9, 2007
Mrs. Tarrence Bryan McGovern Dorothy Shelburne Dew and Tarrence Bryan McGovern were married June 9, 2007, at Asbury Memorial United Metho-dist Church. The Rev. Dr. Stanley Kenton Ingrum performed the 6 pm ceremony. Music was provided by Donald Cockrell, organist; John Combs, pianist; Ashley Fleshman, trombonist; John Davis, bagpiper; and Shannon Scruggs, soloist.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Julian Dew III is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zuk of Columbia and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Julian Dew Jr. of Latta, South Carolina. The bride earned a BA in art studio with a concentration in graphic design from the University of South Carolina. She is a program manager for Justice Television Network at the National Advocacy Center.
The bride wore an ivory strapless ball gown of silk taffeta. It featured silver beaded and embroidered trim at the top of the bodice and along the hem. The back of the dress was fashioned with a trimmed split in the skirt revealing a beautiful sequined tulle inset, which formed the train. The midriff was delicately shirred from below the bodice to the dropped waist line where the loosely pleated full skirt was attached. She wore her mother's cathedral length veil of bridal illusion to complete the elegant look.
The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Montgomery Orr of Springfield, Virginia, and Mr. and Mrs. William Tarry McGovern of Arlington, Virginia, is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Gordon Sproles of Rockledge, Florida, and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Peter McGovern of Arlington, Virginia. The bridegroom graduated from Clemson University with a degree in special education. He has master's degrees in special education and education administration from the University of South Carolina. He is a special education consultant for Richland County School District One.
The matron of honor was Mrs. Allison Amick Dew, sister- in- law of the bride. The attendants were Lauren Elizabeth Bagnal, cousin of the bride; Mrs. Shelby McGovern Dalton, sister of the bridegroom; Ms. Margarethe Judith Dobe; Mrs. Kyle McGee Hunt; and Mrs. Janet Neil Johnson. The flower girls were Morgan Jeanne Edwards and Katherine Grace Edwards, cousins of the bride.
Assisting in various ways during the wedding festivities were Mrs. Elizabeth Howard Chapman, Ashley Teal Priester, Alicia C. Cline, Janna Elise Gibson, Kathryn Cavanaugh, Lantye O'Neil Edwards, Katherine Margaret Otterbein, and Ms. Callie Hanson Williamson.
Nathan Stuart Brown served as best man. The groomsmen were Robert Julian Dew IV, brother of the bride; Kevin Michael McGovern, cousin of the bridegroom; Dr. Dylan Nathan McNamara; Miguel Angel Parks; and Thomas Christopher Parks. The ring bearer was Gabriel James Dalton, nephew of the bridegroom. Serving as ushers were Scott Robertson Dungan, James Langston Henslee, Kevin Patrick Madden, Paul Daniel Sanders and Christopher John Sweeney. James Andrew Quinn was the reader of scripture.
A reception followed at Forest Lake Club.
The couple's wedding trip was to San Francisco and Carmel, California.
