Rotary Clubs contribute to the Midlands
St. Andrews Rotary
      The St. Andrews Rotary Club recently honored the student who earned the Vocational Service Award for 2006- 2007. Leo Iniguez has been participating in the District 5 Transitional Program at Irmo High School for two years. His outstanding work ethic, willingness to work hard, and exceptional manners at school and on the job were noted at the presentation.

Columbia and Capital Rotary Clubs
      Columbia Rotary Club and Capital Rotary Club have awarded college scholarships worth $56,000 to four high school students. Brother and sister on Clemson's Deans List
      Molly Smith and Jordan Smith, 2005 and 2006 graduates of A.C. Flora High School, were selected for the spring 2007 Deans List at Clemson University. Molly, a rising junior, is majoring in public health sciences. Jordan, a rising sophomore, is majoring in accounting.

A.C. Flora grad makes grade at Lander
      Clark McCarthy, a 2005 graduate of A.C. Flora High School, made the Dean's List at Lander University in Greenwood for the fourth straight semester. He was named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll for both 2006 and 2007. Clark is a member of the Lander soccer team and, upon graduation in 2009, plans to teach and coach in Columbia.

Congaree River Blue Trail, accessible to everyone
      American Rivers, in partnership with the River Alliance, dedicated the Congaree River Blue Trail as the nation's first under the American Rivers' Blue Trail Initiative on June 2, 2007. The Congaree River Blue Trail runs 50 miles from Columbia/West Columbia to Bates Bridge (Highway 601) Landing adjacent to Congaree National Park.
