The Richland County Public Library was recognized for its notable work in public relations campaigns and tactics by the S.C. Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. It received a Silver Wing Award in the nonprofit category for the 2006 annual report, entitled The Future is Green and a Silver Wing Award of Merit in the Press/Media Kit category for the 2006 A(ugusta) Baker's Dozen media kit.
Staci Goins has joined Team Oana Investment Advisors and will direct Public Events and Silent
David M. Dechane has been named the S.C. Bar's Law Related Education Citizen of the Year. Dechane has been a City of Columbia police officer and later Master Patrol Officer for the last three years.
Richland One Top Employees of the Year are
The 2007- 2008 Teacher of the Year, Mary Vicks , an information technology specialist at Forest Heights Elementary School; The 2007- 2008 Classified Employee of the Year, Charlotte House , an in-school suspension supervisor at Webber Elementary School; The 2007- 2008 Substitute Teacher of the Year, and Debbie McDonald , a welding teacher at Heyward Career and Technology Center. A special award went to Bonnie Johnson of Alcorn Middle School, who has been employed by Richland One for 40 and a half years, for being the retiree with the most years of service.
Battalion Commander, Cadet First Lieutenant Paris Knotts , a member of A.C. Flora's JROTC received a Partnership Award scholarship sponsored by Palmetto Health. Knots will attend Lander University in the fall.
Dylan Kornegay has been accepted by Rotary
for their Youth Exchange Program for 2007- 2008. Kornegay will spend her senior year in high school in Cordoba, Argentina.
Mallory Boyd , 16, is one of 150 children throughout the U.S. selected to represent S.C. on Capitol Hill to remind Congress and the administration of the critical need to find a cure for Type 1 juvenile diabetes.
Heritage Chevrolet Buick announced the addition of Pontiac and GMC franchises to its Lugoff dealership. Locally owned and operated by the Weiss family for over 18 years, the dealership will now operate as Heritage Chevrolet Buick Pontiac GMC.
Mary Sharp is a winner in the CPAAA Scholarship Program, which is sponsored by the Columbia Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Sharp will attend Lander University and major in Physical Education.
Davis Brazzell is a winner of the CPAAA Scholarship Program. Brazzell attends Cardinal Newman School and plans to major in Political Science.
