Richland Northeast High School's Tenell Felder was one of 102 high school seniors nationwide to receive an Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Award and a $1000 scholarship from the Freedom Forum. The program, named for the founder of the Freedom Forum and USA Today , recognizes students with "exemplary abilities as free spirits who dream, dare and do." Felder, who is in RNE's Cavplex convergence media magnet, recently spent a week at the award's conference in Washington, D.C., where she attended media workshops, met with journalists and newsmakers, and attended news events. "People say the media is corrupt, but all the people I met stressed the importance of presenting the facts and letting the reader draw the conclusions." Felder plans to major in journalism in college.
