Brookland- Cayce Bearcat goalkeeper J.C. Gypin got heckled by a couple of Dreher fans after Byron Quintoa's right footed blast gave the Blue Devils a 1- 0 lead in a Tuesday, March 6 match- up at Memorial Field. But it was Gypin who got the last laugh.

The Bearcats shut down Dreher and outshot the Blue Devils 12- 7 after Quintoa's goal. At the 24:30 mark of the second half, Taylor Lewis's header knotted the score at 1- 1. At the end of regulation and two overtimes later, the score was still 1- 1 sending the game to penalty kicks and placing the outcome in Gypin's hands.

He responded by blocking shots from Quintoa and Adam Dillihay, and admittedly got lucky when Asher Quave- Robinson's rocket bounced off the cross bar. Only Alex Hill was able to get a shot past Gypin, but he still got a hand on the ball.

Gypin said of his efforts, "We've been working a lot on penalty kicks in practice. I just took a deep breath and read them. I'm just happy to beat Dreher finally."

Bearcat coach Kevin Heise said, "It was a typical B- C/Dreher soccer match. We just added another chapter. Every game seems to come down to penalty kicks. It's great for high school soccer, but terrible on the coaches."

New Dreher coach Matt Hornsby who came over from Airport would agree. He doesn't think penalty kicks are a good way to decide games. He's not likely to change his mind after this game.

The Blue Devils lost 13 players from last year's lower state championship team and will look to build on this experience.
