Congratulations Movers and Shakers
Ilona Sunday, a teacher at Crayton Middle School, Richland One School District, is a finalist for S.C. Teacher of the Year. Keith Price has succeeded Dr. Sharon Buddin as principal of Blythewood High School, Richland School District Two. Dr. Maree Price returned to Nelson Elementary School, Richland Two, as principal.
Richland Northeast High School orchestra students A. J. Brannum, Emily Bracey, viola; Daniel Cone,viola; Sam Disharoon, Chelsea Eversmann, Morgan Lovit, bass; and Diane Oliva, violin, have all qualified for the All- State Orchestra. In addition, band students Greer Thaus and Stanley Perry were named to the All- State Band.
Blythewood High School has advanced to the S.C. Bar's state competition at the National Advocacy Center March 9- 10. The winning team will represent S.C. at the national competition in Dallas, Tex. May 10- 13.
Graham Van Schaik, Spring Valley High School, has been named S.C. Top High School Volunteer of the Year and a State Honoree in the 2007 Prudential Spirit Community Awards program. He will receive a $1000 award and an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Dawn Smith, a teacher at Bookman Road Elementary School, Richland School District Two, is a finalist for S.C. Teacher of the Year. Whitney Wiley, Spring Valley High School, has been selected to play in the S.C. North/South Game March 17 at the Winthrop Coliseum. This honor is equivalent to the S. C. Shrine Bowl for football players.
The S.C. Academy of Science sent five students to the American Junior Academy of Science meeting in San Francisco Feb. 15- 18. Four were from Spring Valley High School: Gina Noh, Matthew Nodelman, Graham Van Schaik, and Aurel Lazar. Lisa McAlpine, director of Magnet Programs at Spring Valley High School was their chaperone.
