Sandhills School class raises $750 for Families Helping Families

      Kelly Marie Oswald's elementary class of six students at Sandhills School raised $720 for WIS's Families Helping Families Holiday charitable program. The fundraiser was part of a class project integrating math with the life skills of compassion and gratefulness. The students raised the money primarily by doing chores at home and hosting school bake sales.

Flora sophomore receives award of Eagle Scout

      Austin Layden received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor Ceremony at St. Martin's - in- the- Fields Episcopal Church Dec. 17, 2006. Layden is a member of Troop 4 of The Indian Waters Council. He is a sophomore at A.C. Flora High School and is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate student program.

Lower Richland has rich history
      In 1920, the white school districts of Hopkins, Horrell Hill, Lykesland, and Bellwood consolidated as Richland County School District Five and combined their upper level schools into one high school. In 1923, the new district built a new Consolidated High School Number One for an estimated $46,900 on 52.9 acres on Garners Ferry Road. The school had six classrooms and an auditorium.
