Buck, the dog who has worked side by side with Johnny Mayo to commemorate the war dogs in Vietnam, died March 23, 2006. On April 15, 2006, he was buried beside Satan's Angel, official mascot dog (1944-1961) of the 82nd Airborne in a Pet Rest Cemetery in West Columbia. Two friends of Buck's donated the 700 lb monument which was dedicated with 20 friends and taps when the Vietnam Moving Wall was in Columbia.
