Partners in Education Foundation honors inductees of Richland One Hall of fame
The Partners In Education Foundation held a special program Nov. 2, 2006, to honor the five persons chosen for induction into the Richland One Hall of Fame this year.
The 2006 Richland One Induction Ceremony Gala began with a reception at 6 pm, followed by dinner and the program at 7 pm. Hannah Horne of WIS-TV was the mistress of ceremonies for the evening. Bill Pinkney and The Original Drifters entertained the crowd. The festivities were held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
This year's inductees graduated from Richland One schools and went on to excel in the fields of education, music, coaching, and military service:
+The late Ulysses R. Barber (Booker T. Washington High class of 1934)
Barber was a longtime educator in the Lower Richland community. He retired in 1978 after 40 years of service to the district as a teacher and principal.
+Rear Admiral (Ret.) Reubin B. Bookert (C.A. Johnson High class of 1968)
Bookert was one of only 28 African-American admirals in the 229-year history of the United States Navy. He retired in March of 2006 as commander of Amphibious Group Two in Norfolk, Va.
+ Coach George Glymph (Booker T. Washington High class of 1961)
Glymph led the Eau Claire High boys' basketball team to five state championship titles. He went on to continue his coaching career in the NBA with the Indiana Packers and New York Knicks.
+ Dr. Linda L. Kershaw (C.A. Johnson High class of 1967)
Kershaw, an accomplished musician and educator, is conductor of the Benedict College Concert Choir and immediate past chair of Benedict's Fine Arts Department.
+The late H.B. Rhame Jr. (Dreher High class of 1946)
Rhame served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in Richland One. He retired in 1983 as principal of St. Andrews Elementary School which was renamed H.B. Rhame Elementary in his honor.
