Columbia College prepares future leaders
Kayla Nicole Spigner
Kayla Nicole Spigner, daughter of James and Katrina Spigner, was a participant in Columbia College's Emerging Leaders 2006 residential camp July 16-22. She will be a student at Richland Northeast High School in the fall.
The purpose of emerging Leaders 2006 is to prepare ninth grade girls with the skills necessary for academic and personal success in high school.
Participants - who were nominated by educators and community leaders - learn to successfully negotiate the expectations of high school while taking part in leadership opportunities and interacting with other highly motivated students. They develop critical time management, organizational and communication skills through fun and creative activities.
Their experience is enhanced by interaction with successful student leaders, teachers and community leaders. Activities include team-building exercises, personality inventories and leadership case studies.
