NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS

PROJECT: HAMPTON STREET PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE DEMOLITION
Sealed proposals will be received by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Columbia, South Carolina, for the demolition, removal and disposal of the Hampton Street Pedestrian Bridge. Proposals will be accepted from any Demolition Company qualified to bid under the South Carolina Licensing Law, until 2:00 p.m ., local time, May 25, 2006 at the second floor Conference Room, 1225 Laurel Street in Columbia, South Carolina. The proposals of those bidders showing satisfactory evidence that they are appropriately licensed will be publicly opened by the Director of Construction Management. The work to be done consists of, but not limited to traffic control/protection, acquiring all permits, complete removal and disposal of all structures, concrete, asphalt, steel, trees, vegetation and concrete footings as it relates to the Hampton Street Pedestrian Crosswalk Bridge. The Pedestrian Crosswalk Bridge is approximately 150 feet plus/minus and includes a concrete slab on the north side that is approximately 25 feet by 30 feet.
The City of Columbia reserves the right to waive technicalities, to reject any or all bids and to make such awards as, in the opinion of the City, appear to be to the best interest of the City. FAILURE TO USE THE BID BOND FORM CONTAINED IN THE BID PROPOSAL FORMS (BID BOND, PAGE 1 & 2), WITHOUT MODIFICATION, WILL RESULT IN REJECTION OF THE BID.
Plans, specifications and bid proposal forms are on display at the office of the Director of Engineering, second floor, 1225 Laurel Street, Columbia, South Carolina, 29201. Inquiries should be addressed to Debbie Scott, Engineering Department, City of Columbia at 803-545-3252.
Copies of plans and specifications may be secured on or after May 7, 2006 at the office of the Director of Engineering, City of Columbia, P.O. Box 147, Columbia, South Carolina 29217 for a non-refundable payment of $25.00 , payable to the City of Columbia, Department of Engineering, for each set of drawings and specifications. NOTE: CHECKS MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING.
Contractors are to provide the following information with their bids:
(1) Expected expenditures on local goods
(2) Expected expenditures on local services
(3) Expected expenditures on local labor
Local constitutes as Richland and Lexington County.
The MANDATORY PRE-BID CONFERENCE , which will be held on May 16, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. , local time, in the Second Floor Conference Room at 1225 Laurel Street, Engineering Department, Columbia, South Carolina.
