RNE makes Newsweek's top ten high schools, again Contributed byRichland SchoolDistrict Two
For the third time in a row, Newsweek magazine has named Richland Northeast High School to its list of 1,000 Top High Schools. RNE is the only District Two high school and one of only two Midlands high schools to appear among the top 1,000. The school has steadily improved its list rating, finishing this year with a score of 1.306. The complete list appears on Newsweek's Web site at www. newsweek.com. "I believe in encouraging all our students to continually challenge themselves academically," said Ralph Schmidt, RNE's principal. "Our inclusion on this list shows how well we are succeeding at this goal. It affirms my credo that it is the school's responsibility to find the value in every child, and it's a great way to end the school year." Richland Northeast also appeared on the 2003 list, with a score of 1.091, and the 2004 list, with a score of 1.276. Newsweek did not issue a list in 2004. Dutch Fork High School, in Irmo, also appears on this year's list. Spring Valley High School is on the extended list, at 1015. Richland Northeast High School offers more than 30 Honors, pre-AP, and advanced placement courses in English, math, science and behavioral science, social studies, foreign languages, and fine arts. It also has the AVID program, a national initiative to prepare motivated college preparatory students for Honors and AP level classes.
