Katherine Myers, a senior at CA Johnson, is one of only four students from across the country chosen this year to receive the Herman W. Lay Scholarship, the most prestigious scholarship awarded by Furman to incoming freshmen. The scholarship is valued at more than $140,000.
Frank McClary, associate admissions director at Furman, was at CA Johnson to make the surprise presentation in the school's media center. Myers' parents also were in attendance.
Myers was one of 44 finalists for the Lay Scholarship, which covers tuition, room and board, and fees. Her many other honors and awards include having been elected governor of the 2005 Palmetto Girls State. She is also a 2006 National Merit Scholarship finalist, Richland One Academic All-Star, and High School Scholar.
