Green Thumb Festival
Contributed byGarden Club Council ofGreater Columbia
The Garden Club Council of Greater Columbia will hold the annual Green Thumb Festival at the Garden Council building, Maxcy Gregg Park, on Saturday, April 1, 9 am-3 pm. A large variety of plants will be available for sale to the public. The plants are donated by garden club members.
When dividing perennials, members place in pots extra plants to be sold. Throughout the year cuttings from favorite shrubs are rooted and made available at the sale. Neighbors of club members are generous with their divided plants if there is no space in their yards to replant. House plants will also be sold.
All of the plants are not native SC plants, but they have been grown successfully in the greater Columbia area for many years. Directions for planting and suggestions for caring for the plants will be attached to each one.
This year Sandy Lovern of Fort Lawn will be here to help participants with their landscape design and to help chose the proper plants for yards. Sandy has 25 years of experience in the landscape and nursery business. She will bring plants from her nursery and greenhouse where she specializes in different and unusual plants.
Proceeds from the Green Thumb Festival are used to maintain the council building and grounds. Call 786-4635
