Photos by Mimi Maddock Tulips should be planted before freezing weather, because they require a time of cold while they are dormant. Tulips prefer moist soil when planted and require two to four weeks to root before watering. If tulips are too moist before they begin to root they may be susceptible to various rot and infection.
