Kudzu Queens roll into Five Points for St. Pat's Day
The Carolina Kudzu Queens, Columbia's very own royalty, will once again return to the St. Patrick's Day Festival in Five Points. The queens share a wild redheaded look, the name Geraldine, and an occasional mimosa.
Columbia's version of royalty are raucous, rowdy, and outrageous women who always knew they were born destined to be royalty. "Each and every one of us was born to be queen, don't you know 'shuga?," explained Queen Geraldine. But behind all the glitz, glamour, purple sequins, and green feather boas are a group of successful business women dedicated to raising money for charity.
The purpose of the Kudzu Queens is to raise money for the children in need in the community and have fun in the process. Over the past several years, in addition to the St. Patrick's Day parade, the Queens have made appearances to benefit children and have been memorialized at Dianne's On Devine restaurant on the "Diva's and Don's" wall.
They are once again ready to oversee the festivities at Five Points as the grand finale of the parade. The queens will ride on their royal float, dancing to the tunes of their very own Lounge Lizard, followed by an exceptional opportunity for festival goers to meet the charismatic Queens as they work to raise money for Sistercare this year.
