Spatz is the subject of Sherry Fair’s books. February 6, 5–8 pm, Windsor Elementary School was packed to overflowing. Windsor’s educational foundation was hosting its annual foundation family night. Pizza was served in the courtyard café, students performed choral readings in the gym, parents and community members placed bids at the silent auction in the Media Center, and author Sherry Fair and her sheltie, Spatz, were in the music room visiting with children and their parents. Many wildcats purchased signed first editions of her book, The Scratching Sound: Spatz.

Other items at the auction were a Bose wave radio, signed sports memorabilia, and tickets to popular sporting events. Student favorites were activities sponsored by their favorite teachers. Foundation president Marty Roth stated that he hoped this event would raise in the neighborhood of $3,000 which will be used to fund teacher written grants for educational materials, technological items, and field experiences.

This was Principal Eric Jeffcoat’s first major event at Windsor. Jeffcoat, who began his duties as principal in December, said, “I was very impressed with the support from the community. I met moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and neighbors of the students. As a new principal it is refreshing and encouraging to see such strong support from the community.” One of his favorite parts was the student performances. Jeffcoat was in awe of the success of the event and stated, “I appreciate the dedication and commitment of the Windsor Educational Foundation, the parent volunteers, the faculty, and the staff.
