Kids with neon-painted hair yelled from the bleachers, “Kick it, Mom!” Husbands corralling their lively toddlers shouted, “Get it to the goal!” The Beef O’Brady Babes and the Psychedelic Chicks were on the soccer field fighting for the Winter Season 1 championship at Plex Indoor Sports.

After a winter season of nine hard-played games, the Beef O’Brady Babes finished with five wins, four losses, and one tie. The Psychedelic Chicks finished with five wins and four losses.

Monday night’s final playoff game ended with a score of Beef O’Brady Babes 5 to Psychedelic Chicks 1. After the game, Beef O’Brady players proudly accepted their championship title, and families and friends rushed on the field to congratulate the two teams.

During the week, players on the two teams normally see each other at work, book club, or during their children’s activities. But on game nights they welcome the opportunity to dribble, sprint, and shoot the soccer ball. Some of the athletes played soccer in high school and college, but many teammates have only recently pursued the sport.

The women’s soccer league at Plex Indoor Sports plays every Monday night. The Plex is located at 741 Fashion Drive at the Village at Sandhill.
