The Robert Burns Society of the Midlands was organized in 1978 with Richard C. Strachan as president. Saturday January 28, the society celebrated its 28th anniversary and the 247th birthday of Scotland’s bard, Robert Burns.

President Rick Norred opened the event and turned the microphone over to Master of Ceremonies Mike Miller. Billy DuBose and the Palmetto Pipes & Drums led the processions of the tartans. Ron Beaton addressed the haggis and toasts were given by Bill Kirker, Richard Freeman, Julie Smoak, Humphrey Childers, Thomas McKinney, Kendall Walker, Colleen Walker, and Peggy McClure.

After dinner entertainment was provided by Highland Dancers (Tori Anderson, Laura Tellefsen, Julianne Kay), piping by Neil Anderson, and Scottish Country Dancing. The event closed with singing of the Flower of Scotland and Auld Lang Syne.
