The next film in ETV’s Carolina Stories series, Steel Roads and Iron Men, takes a trip back in time to regale the heyday of railroad passenger travel in SC.

Focusing on the Columbia Newberry and Laurens Railroad, director Bruce Mayer tells the stories through commentary by veteran railroad employees and others involved in the railroad industry.

Mayer’s father, Euston Mayer, a section foreman on the CN&L Railroad for many years, adds his recollections to the film also.

The vintage footage of the days when railroad travel was an integral part of transportation in SC sharply contrasts the uncertain status of the railroad today.

Steel Roads and Iron Men airs Thursday, February 9 at 9 pm on ETV. An encore presentation will air Thursday, April 20 at 9 pm.
