Mary Anne Kaneft 1931–2005

A memorial service for Mary Anne Cappelmann Kaneft, 74, was held Sunday, December 11, at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. L. Craig Wilkes and Rev. David L. Arthur officiated. The family received friends following the service in Jackson Hall. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Counseling Center or to a charity of one’s choice. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, was in charge.

Mrs. Kaneft died Wednesday, December 7, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Frederick William and Helen Elizabeth Cary Cappelmann. She attended A.C. Moore Elementary School and Hand Middle School. A graduate of Dreher High School, she attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia and graduated from USC with a double major in psychology and French, having a straight “A” average. She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority at USC.

A lifelong resident of Columbia, she was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club and a sustainer of the Junior League of Columbia. She was an avid bridge player and loved birds and pets. Mrs. Kaneft was a great friend and listener to many.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a circle leader, Bible teacher, and served as president of Women of the Church. She was and remains a committed Christian.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Jack Kaneft Jr.; daughter, Cary Kaneft Walden and son–in–law, Timothy Walden of Columbia; sons, Jack Kaneft, and daughter–in–law, Valery Kaneft of Columbia, Rick Kaneft of Columbia, and Bill Kaneft and daughter–in–law, Jan Kaneft of Columbia; grandchildren, Brandon Walden, Madison Walden, Hampton Walden, Jack Kaneft IV, Lauren Kaneft, Kristen Kaneft, and her mother, Linda P. Kaneft, Beau Kaneft, and Brent Kaneft; sister–in–law, Marilyn Minick; nieces, Cary LaFaye and Betty Maloney; and nephew, Billy DuPre. Mrs. Kaneft was predeceased by a sister, Betty DuPre.
