Cardinal Newman played Dillon Christian Monday, November 21. The Cardinals’ Michael Littlejohn took on Paul Price for the opening jump ball. He slammed it to his right but Dillon Christian took an early lead with a few layups. Jordan Willet of CN retaliated with a swish from the three point line, quickly followed by a lay up by Littlejohn.

In the second quarter, things started to heat up. Willet kicked it off with another three pointer. Soon afterward fouls started piling up. This allowed Dillon Christian to catch up but not enough to take the lead.

In the third quarter Dillon Christian gained the lead 31–28 but not for long. Michael Littlejohn came out of nowhere and shot a three pointer. The quarter ended with Cardinal Newman leading 48–42.

Once again Dillon came back from behind with a few layups. With 42 seconds left, Dillon had the lead at 53–51. Price fouled Zach Hrovat allowing CN to comeback and tie up the game.

CN fouled Wright allowing Dillon to take the lead at 55–53. CN shot two layups and was fouled making the score 58–55. Dillon shot another layup with 22 seconds to go. With three seconds left, Wright shot a Hail Mary but it bounced off the rim allowing CN to win their first game 58–57.

Wayne Earhardt, coach of CN boys’ basketball, hopes his new team will make it to the playoffs this season. They are very inexperienced; yet, he believes they will grow better with each coming game making them very formidable.

CN lost 90% of their main scorers last year. “There are a lot of holes to fill,” said Earhardt.

Wayne’s top players are Michael Culberston (senior), John Wilson (junior), Michael Nerbon (junior), Jordan Willet (sophomore), and Michael Littlejohn (sophomore). The team also has a freshman, Jake Zokan, and an eighth grader, Zach Hrovat. Their toughest games will be against Heathwood, Augusta Christian, and Hammond.
