Samkon “Sam” Gado, a 2001 Ben Lippen graduate and Falcon football standout, scored on a one-yard touchdown run against the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 6. The running back dropped to his knees and thanked God after the run. It was his first NFL touchdown.

After the game, Gado told reporters that he was overwhelmed by emotion. “That’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I just wanted to thank God for that. It’s a part of me.” Gado said. “I fully intend to do the Lambeau leap if there are more touchdowns to come.”

After the touchdown, Gado asked the equipment staff to get him the ball as a memento. It’s the first football the native of Nigeria has ever owned.

Cardinal Newman’s Jarred Newton had 73 yards rushing to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark in a playoff loss to Wilson Hall.

Hammond’s Punky DaSilva had 221 yards passing to eclipse the 2,000 yard mark in a playoff loss to Porter Gaud.

Heathwood Hall marches on. The Highlanders defeated Orangeburg Prep 48-0. Brandon Gantt had 139 yards passing. Crawford Prezioso had nine tackles along with a tackle for loss and two quarterback sacks.
