William Duffie “Bill” Verner 1940–2005
Graveside service for William Duffie “Bill” Verner Jr., 65, was held Monday, October 24, 2005, at 10:30 am in St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Congaree.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine Street assisted the family.
Mr. Verner died Friday, October 21, 2005. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late William Duffie Verner and Elizabeth Weston Verner and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. In 1997, after retiring from Nations Bank as a senior vice president and state chief investment officer, he founded Verner Consulting of which he was owner and president.
For more than twelve years, Mr. Verner lectured on economics and investments for the Cannon Financial Institute at The Institute at Pepperdine University, the University of Notre Dame, Boston University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
During his lifetime, Mr. Verner traveled widely including humanitarian missions to Bosnia and Brazil.
Mr. Verner is survived by his son and daughter–in–law, William Duffie Verner III and Christina Pelech; daughter and son–in–law, Curry Verner Vinci and Baker Vinci; son, James Weston Verner; sister and brother–in–law, Elizabeth Verner Powers and Gilbert Tennant Powers Jr.; nieces and nephews, Gilbert Tennant Powers III, Elizabeth Weston Powers, Sarah Preston Powers Marzagao, and William Duffie Verner Powers; and his many wonderful lifelong friends.
