Lewis Cromer of Columbia has been elected national secretary of the American Board of Trial Advocates. His election, by acclamation, came at the national board meeting in Washington, D.C. on October 14, 2005. Cromer will serve the coming year on the ABOTA executive committee which includes President–-Elect John Phelps from Arkansas, Vice–President Lewis Sifford from Dallas, Vice President Bill Callaham from California and Treasurer Harry Widmann from New Orleans.

The SC Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates will hold its black tie dinner at the Summit Club in Columbia November 10 where it will name this year’s Trial Lawyer of the Year. Tom Pope from Newberry is the current president of the chapter. On November 11, ABOTA will sponsor its Masters–In–Trial program at USC Law School in conjunction with the SC Bar Association at which a mock trial will be presented featuring trial lawyers and judges from all over the country.

ABOTA is a national organization of lawyers and judges formed for the purpose of protecting and preserving the seventh amendment right to jury trial, as well as promoting civility, professionalism and ethical behavior among lawyers who represent both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation. ABOTA’s headquarters is in Dallas, Texas.
