Doris Faye English Roy, 65, died Thursday, September 1, 2005, at the Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

Born in Blenheim, South Carolina July 18, 1940, to the late Woodrow Robert English and Shadie Lane English. She was a member of Pilgrims Way Baptist Church in Hopkins, South Carolina. She attended Francis Marion University and later received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in Virginia. After a 30–year nursing career, she retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. To fulfill her dream of traveling, Ms. Roy was a truck driver for five years. Ms. Roy was the receptionist at The Columbia Star 2000–2001 before diabetes took her eyesight.

Survivors include her daughters Doris Denise Honaker of Hopkins, South Carolina; Pamela Grace Elliott of Columbia; sons, Arthur Franklin Elliott Jr. of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and Roy D. Fisher of Charleston, South Carolina; sisters, Sally E. Morton and Sheila English Phillips of Latta, South Carolina; Shirley English Swan of Bennettsville, South Carolina; brothers, Woodrow Robert English and Herbert Lewis English of Latta; Tracy F. English and J. Floyd English of Blenheim; and Jerry Wayne English of Grifton, North Carolina; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at 3 pm Sunday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Catfish Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Latta.

Ms. Roy was a caring, loving, giving person. She will be dearly missed.
