Columbia’s women win SC One–Day State Tournment
Vicky Cyr from Golden Hills Golf Club and Tonya Cisle from Columbia Country Club win the One–Day State Tournament
It was a victory over fast greens, summer haze, and a field of 96 female competitors. Tonya Cisle and Vicky Cyr won the Women’s SC One–Day State Tournament held at the Columbia Country Club on Tuesday, August 9.
Tonya Cisle, Columbia Country Club’s “golden girl,” defended her club’s representation by shooting an overall gross score of 74. Vicky Cyr, a member of Golden Hills Golf and Country Club, won the Overall Net Score place with a 67.
Sheryl Rhoden, hostess and state representative of the One–Day State, said the playing field of SC women golfers for the One– Day State was filled to capacity. “Hot weather, rain, and summer vacation don’t slow down Carolina women golfers. The One– Day State Tournament gives us all a chance to network and play on different courses with different challenges.”

To participate in the WSCGA’s One–Day State Tournament, one must be a member of the LGA at a sanctioned SC golf club, public or private. Regular members have the opportunity to participate in approximately 26 one–day events held throughout the year. These one–day tournaments are scheduled monthly in different areas of the state, affording members the chance to play at some of the finest golf courses in SC and compete with players from all over the state.

The Women’s SC Golf Association is a non–profit organization founded in 1949. The WSCGA membership is made up of local Women’s Golf Associations throughout the state. Membership has grown from the original 10 clubs to over 150 member associations with more than 14,000 women golfers receiving WSCGA handicaps.

WSCGA acts as an arm of the USGA in upholding traditions, policies, and high values in regard to the great game of golf. Providing the opportunity for women amateur golfers to compete on a statewide level is a major function of the WSCGA.

Each member association appoints a WSCGA representative and handicap chairperson. The WSCGA Board of Governors meets annually with the representatives and is always open to their suggestions in determining WSCGA policies and scheduling activities.
