People are preparing to shake their tile bags, rack their brains, and roll through four games of SCRABBLE® at the SCRABBLE® Fundraiser for Literacy to Benefit the Greater Columbia Literacy Council. All proceeds go directly to the adult education programs at the Council.

The competition will take place Saturday, August 20, beginning at 9 am at Shandon United Methodist Church. Refreshments will be provided and the winners will receive prizes.

The non–profit Greater Columbia Literacy Council was formed in 1968 and served more than 600 adults in 2004 through programs that instruct basic reading, math, workplace, health, and English language skills. The Council is partially funded by the United Way of the Midlands.
