The SC Dept. of Juvenile Justice is sponsoring a Job Fair from 10 am–7 pm at the DJJ Midlands Evaluation Center. The job fair is open to the public. For more information call 896-9518.

The Columbia City Ballet will hold auditions for Columbia City Ballet II, the official training and apprentice company, at 2:30 pm at the Columbia Conservatory of Dance. Auditions are for ages eight and up and there is a $10 fee. Call 799-7605 or 899-7408.

The August edition of Carolina Works , featuring the importance of military personnel in SC to the business community, will air on ETV stations at 6 pm.

In coordination with A Body of Work: The Human Figure from Degas to Diebenkorn , Sigmund Abeles , NYC artist, will hold a free public gallery talk at the Columbia Museum of Art at noon.

This is the last day to view Anna Heyward Taylor’ s works at the BB&T gallery at the Columbia Musuem of Art.

The Florence Little Theatre will hold auditions for The Miss Firecracker Contest at 3 pm at the theatre and again on August 24 at 7pm. Auditions are for ages 18 and up. Call 662-3731.

The August edition of Carolina Works , featuring the importance of military personnel in SC to the business community, will air on ETV stations at 6 pm.

The Columbia/Richland County Fire Fighter “Fill the Boot” campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystropy Association will run August 24–26. Fire fighters will be on street corners throughout Richland County and Columbia taking donations in their boots.

First Presbyterian Church of Columbia will hold a lunch service from 11:45 am–12:50 pm. Hot meal is $5 and soup/salad is $4. No reservations required. Call 799-9062 ext. 261.

The Columbia branch of the NAACP is hosting its 19th Annual Membership Appreciation Celebration at the David H. Swinton Center at Benedict College. Tickets are $35 for adults, $50 for couples, and $15 for children 17 and under. Call 736-8464.

The Columbia Harmonizers Chapter of the International Barbershop Harmony Society invites all men of all ages who want to sing in a men’s chorus. All voice ranges are welcome. No prior musical experience is necessary. If you enjoy singing they will train you. The group meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30 at Shandon United Methodist Church. 798-1538

The United Methodist Women of Shandon UMC is hosting their first Annual Garage Sale August 26–27 from 8 am–1 pm. Donations to the sale will be accepted August 22–23 from 9 am–8 pm, August 24 from 9 am–5 pm, and August 25 from 9 am–1 pm.

Rolling Readers of the Midlands , a non–profit children’s literacy organization, is seeking volunteers to read to or tutor reading to children. For an hour a week, you can make a difference in a child’s life. Call 733–READ or email rrmidlands@hotmail.com.
