Mrs. Michael Carl Hawkins
Mrs. Michael Carl Hawkins Elizabeth Hart Werts and Michael Carl Hawkins were married August 6, 2005, in First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Matthew Gribbin Lucas performed the double–ring ceremony at 6 pm. Music was provided by Ronald E. Miller, organist; Laura Nevitt, soloist; and Lenora Morrow, pianist.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brantley Werts. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Katie Yarborough Coleman of Horrell Hill and the late W. DesPortes Coleman Jr. and Mrs. Lillie Hart Werts of Ninety Six, South Carolina, and the late John Rufus Werts Jr. The bride graduated from Dreher High School and is a senior at Clemson University majoring in English.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wilson Hawkins Jr. of Lexington. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Franklin Shipley Sr. of Cayce and the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wilson Hawkins Sr. The bridegroom is a graduate of Lexington High School and is a senior at Clemson University majoring in engineering.

The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a white wedding gown of duchess satin with modified sweetheart neckline and full chapel train. The A–line gown was enhanced with an overall beaded design in a floral pattern.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Lisa Hawkins Wicker of Lexington, sister of the bridegroom. The attendants were Jill Foster Coleman of West Columbia; Mrs. Amanda Thompson Glynn of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Mrs. Tracy Thompson Leapard of Spartanburg; Julia Ann Pridmore and Laura Katherine Pridmore of Greenwood, all cousins of the bride. Robyn Schuyler Fisher and Melissa Lynn Harrison also attended the bride. Emily Ruth Pridmore of Greenwood, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl.

The father of the bridegroom served as best man. The groomsmen were Dr. Christopher Michael Wicker of Lexington, brother–in–law of the bridegroom; Richard Brantley Werts Jr., brother of the bride; Michael Andrew Caldwell, Manning Chevis Crapps, Alan Sanford Davis, Vernon Elmer Grier III, Scott David Lyle, and Jason Thomas Sox, all of Lexington; and Justin Allen Williams of Leesville. Gaines Marshall Fennell of Ninety Six, cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer.

The reception was held at the Columbia Museum of Art. After a Western Caribbean cruise, the couple will reside in Clemson, South Carolina.
