The United Methodist Men at I. DeQuincey Newman United Methodist Church will hold its first Memorial Golf Classic at the Fort Jackson Golf Course at 1 pm. USC will hold Poetry School 101 August 12–14 at the Columbia Museum of Art. Cost is $125 per person. Sessions will run from 6–8:30 pm on Friday, 9 am–5 pm on Saturday, and 1–5 pm on Sunday. To register, contact Charlene Spearen at 777-2230 or cmspeare@gwm.sc.edu.

Faces by Charles Mason Crowson , an exhibit of portraits of prominent South Carolinians, will open in the Williams–Brice House of the Sumter County Museum with a reception at 5–7 pm. Call 775-0908.

The Greater Columbia Chapter of the US Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association will hold a dance from 7:30–10:30 pm at the Hugh Dimmery Memorial Center (The Barn), 680 Cherokee Lane, West Columbia. Admission is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers. www.USADance.US

The Town of Lexington presents Beach Blanket Boogie as part of the Concerts in the Park series. The Mutual Fun Band will play from 4–6 pm at Virginia Hylton Park. The concert is free. Call 356-8238.
