Killian Elementary was recognized as a national exemplary learning center for its efforts in serving low–performing students through mentoring and academic intervention. The Help One Student To Succeed program is administered by Principal Eric Brown and HOSTS teacher Martha Tucker.

During the 2004-2005 school year, 37 students and 119 mentors participated in the school’s HOSTSLink Language Arts program. Anyone interested in becoming a HOSTS volunteer mentor should contact the school, (803) 699-2981 ext. 1047.
