The SC State Fair honored scholarship recipients with a banquet July 30. Those from Richland County were Shakia Chavon Bouknight , Columbia High School, Clemson University; Jonathan Whilden McCullough , Brookland Cayce High School, USC; Elliott Cooper Mainor , Richland Northeast High School, The Citadel; Johnathan M. Rice , Keenan High School, Winthrop University; and Ashley Nicole Simmons , Airport High School, Furman University.

Ashley Miller was named to the dean’s list at Emory College.

Merit Scholarship winners were James R. Carlisle , Dreher High School; Jeremy S. Greeter , Richland Northeast High School; Ryan C. Holmes , home school; Robert E. Kneece III , Hammond School; Elizabeth I. Nyikos , home school; Roxanne A. Stockard , Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities; John W. Wooten , Richland Northeast High School; Kevin Yeh , Dreher High School; William Evans Bennett , Spring Valley High School; Amanda G. Crout and Kathy L. Niu , Ridge View High School; and Kaitlyn L. Pruitt, Dreher High School.

Richard Moss , teacher at C. A. Johnson High School for more than 28 years, received Colby College’s Outstanding Educator Award.

William Grayson Lambert , A. C. Flora High School, earned the Jefferson Scholarship for study at the University of Virginia.

Shayna Scialabba , Brookland Cayce, completed Studio 101, a four–day workshop that gave the students college–level instruction and a taste of college at The Art Institute of Charlotte.

Philip L. Gregory , Barret M. Kemp , Lorenza Cooper , and Thomas R. Freeman made the Dean’s List at Virginia Tech.

Alexandra Eslinger Creswick , Anna Elizabeth Dawson , and Rebecca Mitcham Hix made the Dean’s List at Wake Forest.

Tianyuan Ge , Spring Valley High School, and Andrew J. Yoos , Richland Northeast High School, were awarded Furman University’s most prestigious academic scholarships, the James B. Duke Scholarship.

Students named to the Dean’s List at the University of the South (Sewanee) were Isabel Witherspoon Foster , Gary Tusten Pope Jr ., Sanford Manning Zeigler, and Marjorie Marie Palmer.

Benedict College Alumna Freeda Johnson was honored nationwide by the Kresge Foundation as one of the top 46 donors to Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Ioana Lupascu , Spring Valley High School, was named a winner of the annual Siemens National Merit Scholarships. These $16,000 college scholarships are awarded each year to children of Siemens operating company employees.

Rachel Davis , Richland Northeast High School, received the Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship.

David M. Bounds , Dana M. Bufford , Maria A. Fogle , Tiffany D. Glymph , Lauren A. Karelitz , Lauren A. Moore , and Britton Singletary were named to the Dean‘s List at Francis Marion University.

New members of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at Furman University are Katherine C. Ballentine , Kristen L. Capogrossi , Joanna E. Childers , Shana N. Coshal , Whitney L. Jones , Sarah J. Keels , Michael J. Spinelli , and Courtney R. Thomas .
