The Unique program at Columbia College is proof that private business and the education community can work hand–in–hand to achieve mutual goals. The result is a program in which everyone wins. This is the 12th year of that program.

“Since 1993 the Department of Music at Columbia College has enjoyed a very beneficial collaboration with the Roberts Music Center and the Kawai Corporation. Each year Roberts Music Center and Kawai have placed new pianos, both acoustic and digital, in the studios and classrooms of the Department of Music at Columbia College. Our faculty and students have enjoyed playing instruments totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars featuring the latest designs and technology available in piano construction. Many instruments that have been purchased at our annual sale were recommended to the purchaser by our faculty, staff, or students. At a time of corporate greed, misuse of funds, and fiscal irresponsibility, it is comforting to know that a large corporation such as Kawai and a local businessman like R. D. Roberts care enough about the future of music to make this kind of investment in our institution.”

Dr. Lillian Quackenbush, chair Department of Music

After the pianos have been used for a year, they are offered for sale along with other selected pianos and replaced with new pianos for the coming year and the process is repeated. The sale at Columbia College is one of the largest and oldest of its kind in the Columbia area.

The sale will be August 5, 6, 7. Preview appointments may be made to see and purchase a piano on Friday or Saturday by calling the college at 786-3070. Sunday afternoon from noon until 4 pm, the sale is open to the general public and no appointment is necessary.
