Richland One’s Rosewood Elementary School is one of 132 SC elementary and middle schools that was recognized by the Education Oversight Committee for its efforts to close the achievement gap among students of differing economic, racial and ethnic groups.
The schools were chosen from 833 elementary and middle schools statewide based upon three criteria for recognition:
• When a school enrolls a group of at least 30 students from the economic, racial or ethnic groups that historically have underachieved in our state;
•When the performance of the identified group meets or exceeds the 75th percentile of performance of students statewide in either English language arts or mathematics; and
•When the school has met the requirements for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for all students and for the identified group. The performance criterion rises as student achievement rises each year.
Rosewood and the other schools identified for recognition were presented certificates during the June 13 EOC meeting.
