Dr. Everett L. Dargan is one of SC’s preeminent humanitarians and thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. On Thursday, June 16th, the Midlands community saluted Dr. Dargan’s contributions to the field of medicine at a dinner in his honor at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Proceeds from the event will be used to establish a scholarship fund in Dr. Dargan's name at the USC School of Medicine.

As a compassionate and respected health care provider, Dr. Dargan has made a difference in the lives of thousands of South Carolinians and has established himself as a role model for underserved minority students aspiring to enter careers in the field of medicine.

In creating the Everett L. Dargan Scholarship, the USC School of Medicine has recognized the dire need for greater diversity among medical students in our state and for more minority physicians to practice medicine in SC. Through scholarships to promising, under–represented minority students, the University hopes to continue Dr. Dargan’s legacy by equipping a new generation of effective physicians and future role models.

Palmetto Health has established the Palmetto Health Medical Scholarship Fund at the USC School of Medicine, which will provide full, in-state tuition to a deserving, qualified under–represented minority student.
