Since some of the women whose portraits are part of the current Celebrating American Women exhibition at Columbia Museum of Art have ties to the Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR members decided to tour the show together.

Last week Dr. Constance Ashton Myers, USC history professor emeritus, DAR member, and CMA docent, led a small group through the exhibition. Dr. Myers and Katherine McBroom, one of the group, are members of the DAR University Chapter.

The exhibition of 68 pioneering women, organized by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, currently undergoing renovations in Washington, DC, will remain on view in Columbia through July 10.

The exhibition highlights portraits of women of distinction from all walks of life. It includes images of such trailblazers like Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Sandra Day O'Connor, and Marion Jones. Additionally, an eclectic mix of women from the arts and entertainment industries are represented, including Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Grace of Monaco, Ethel Merman, and Marilyn Monroe. The show celebrates the efforts of these and other women who have had a profound impact on American society and culture.
