Spring 2005 is a winning season for the girls’ lacrosse team at Ridge View High School. The team captured a victorious 9–3 score in the final playoffs defeating the Bluffton Bobcats in the SC Lacrosse League Tournament this May. The lacrosse team brought the trophy home for the first time in Ridge View’s history.

“We are super excited!” said Co–captain Kristen Davis, a senior who has been on the team four years. “This is the first year we won! We all worked together.”

Jessica Gawler, another co–captain with three years experience, acknowledged that the team’s hard work, practice, and conditioning came together for the victory.

The co–captains shared various duties for the team practice throughout the year such as leading warm–ups, stretches, and caring for equipment.  To keep the team’s stamina going, the co–captains were always ready to offer support to their teammates.

Andrea Mixon, a first year rookie, was one of 20 goalies from the North and South Carolina division to be recognized at the conference. “Andrea is the best goalie in the Atlantic National Competition” said Katie Jones, another co–captain of the team who will be attending USC, Aiken next year.

Senior team member Colleen Paxton won a college scholarship for her athletic endeavors in lacrosse as well as her academic achievement. Colleen will be attending Lees–McRae College in the fall.

“All these girls are academically intense,” stated Coach Brandon Cavins.  “We prioritized study and physical conditioning.  They have learned how to delegate.  They’re winners.”
