Beach party comes to the SC State Museum

The coolest sounds to be found this summer will be heard at the SC State Museum Friday, June 10. Write down the date, because that’s when the 2005 edition of “Elliot Davis and SC Bank & Trust Present Beach Music Blast” will bring the best of the beach to the Capital City.
Four of beach music’s greatest bands will kick off the summer right and have shaggers and music lovers kicking off their shoes to scoop up a little sand.
The Catalinas, fresh from winning the Leighton Grant Achievement Award from the Beach Music Association International will bring their hit “Summertime’s Calling Me” and much more to get the party started.
Still Cruzin’, show band extraordinaire, will build on the excitement with rhythm, great choreography, and terrific harmony.
Then it’s the Holiday Band, known far and wide for the good times it generates.
And last, but certainly not least – there is no “least” at this event – the sensational, girl–watchin’ O’Kaysions, who have wowed legions of fans for decades.
The event is a fundraiser for the Foundation, which supports the spectacular variety of exhibits, programs, and events that Palmetto State residents and their visitors have long enjoyed at the State Museum.
But the fun stuff isn’t limited to just the bands. Shag purists can strut their stuff on the museum’s historic 112–year old wooden floor to the sounds of the legendary Billy Smith, featured DJ from 94.9 FM The Surf, spinning the classic tunes of beachdom.
And of course, what would a beach party be without food and drinks? Delicious food and a variety of drinks will definitely be on hand for purchase.
And all this food, fun, and music can be had at an affordable price! Tickets are only $25 in advance and $30 the day of show. For museum and shag club members, it’s only $20 in advance, $25 the day of show – one of many good reasons to join the Friends of the State Museum.
Tickets can be picked up at the museum at 301 Gervais St., ordered by phone at (803) 898-4935 or via the web at www.museum.state.sc.us with Visa or Mastercard and at all SCBT locations throughout the state.
The doors open at 6 pm and the music cranks up at 7, continuing until 11:30 pm.
