Mrs. Pope Duncan Johnson IVMrs. Pope Duncan Johnson IV Helen Cary Lafaye and Pope Duncan Johnson IV were married April 23, 2005, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. The Reverend Canon Robert Gambrell Riegel performed the 5 pm ceremony. Music was performed by Doak J. Wolfe, Assistant Organist and Choirmaster.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Bird Lafaye. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. George Eugene Lafaye Jr. and the late Mr. Lafaye and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moffatt Barmore DuPre. The bride is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a BA in Russian and Sociology. She earned a master of international business from the University of South Carolina. She is employed by McEntire Produce.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pope Duncan Johnson III. He is the grandson of Mrs. William James Hicklin Jr. and the late Mr. Hicklin of Jacksonville, Florida, and of Mrs. Pope Duncan Johnson Jr, and the late Mr. Johnson of Newberry. The bridegroom earned a BS in Biology from Wofford College. He is the president of Johnson and Lesley Construction Co., Inc.

The bride wore a dress of antique white satin with a drop waist, inverted box pleats, and a chapel length train. The bodice and halter top were hand embroidered with seed pearls and rhinestones.

Mrs. Edwin Averyt Poston (Harriet Whitaker Moore) was the matron of honor. Mrs. Bill Roy Shepherd (Mary Margaret Johnson), sister of the bridegroom, and Grace Taylor Merry were readers. Courtney Lafaye Floyd, cousin of the bride served as the crucifer. The flower girl was Eliza Jane Shepherd, the bridegroom’s niece.

Mr. Pope Duncan Johnson III, father of the bridegroom, was best man. The senior usher was George Eugene Lafaye III, uncle and godfather of the bride. William James Johnson, brother of the bridegroom; Bill Roy Shepherd, brother–in–law of the bridegroom; Edwin O’Dell Lesley Jr.; and Mr. Christopher Gordon Lashley served as ushers. Also serving as ushers were cousins of the bride, John William Morgan IV, Thomas Cordes Morgan, and Robert Lafaye Morgan.

A reception at Forest Lake Club followed the ceremony. After a wedding trip to Argentina, the couple will reside in Columbia.
