When USC students heard that there would be
Free Beer Tomorrow
at the Russell House student union, they had an obligation to check it out. On April 23, they came for the screening of
Free Beer Tomorrow
, a film short featuring the talents of three USC media arts graduate students: Ashlon Langley; Matthew Sefick; and Andrew Haworth; and Stewart Grinton, graduate of USC’s BA program in media arts.
The film is the story of Aubrie, a young woman who is rushing out of town to marry an immigrant friend for money. When her car breaks down, she finds herself stranded at an auto garage with an elderly slow–working mechanic. After she gets over the frustration of waiting, she realizes taking time to reflect won’t slow her down, but it can help her enjoy the ride.
“Free Beer Tomorrow” filmmakers Andrew Haworth, director of photography (l), and Aslon Langley, writer and director, work on a storyboard scene.
The 14–minute film was set in Castle’s Garage in Winnsboro, SC. Sam Castle, owner and mechanic, volunteered to shut down his business for a week of filming. The music of the film was also a generous gift. Danielle Howe, local singer/songwriter, signed over full usage rights for three of her songs to the production company at no charge.
Actors Frank Warlick (l) Britt Taylor and John Garies (r) talk to director, Ashlon Langley, about a scene.
Writer and director of the film, Ashlon Langley, said, “We think we’ve made a movie, that for its flaws and successes, we’re at least proud to show.”
