Hall names Troy Williamson male amateur athlete of the year
USC wide receiver Troy Williamson has been selected male amateur athlete of the year by the SC Athletic Hall of Fame.
Williamson, a former state track champion sprinter from Silver Bluff High School in Aiken, holds the USC record for the longest touchdown reception at 99 yards. In 2004 he led the SEC in receiving yards per game (75.9) and receiving TD’s (7). He is expected to be a high first round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
Williamson will be honored May 5 at the Embassy Suites Hotel at the SC Athletic Hall of Fame’s annual banquet. The Hall’s class of 2005 inductees include another star USC receiver, Robert Brooks, who went on to become a star with the Green Bay Packers. Golfer Jay Haas, former NBA standouts Tyrone Corbin and Jim Fox, former Clemson–NFL defensive linemen William Perry, Michael Dean Perry, and the late Elizabeth “Lib” Mahon of the All–American Girls Professional Baseball League will also be inducted.
Tickets, $500 for a table of eight or $100 per person, can be purchased by contacting the Hall of Fame office at 803-779-0905 or by mail at 1310 Lady Street, 9th Floor, Columbia, SC 29201. Additional information can be found at www.southcarolinaathletichalloffame.org.
