Some high schools are still battling for playoff berths in the forthcoming baseball and softball post–season play. Baseball, softball, boys’ tennis, soccer, track and field, golf, and even Lacrosse teams hope to make the playoffs and the state championship match ups. Most teams start first round play next week.

A.C. Flora’s softball team has already sewed up the Region AAAA title with a 10–0 romp over Lugoff–Elgin this past Monday night. The victory gave the Lady Falcons a mark of 23–2, the top record in the classification. Aimee Ginter also boosted her personal record to 13–1 by pitching a three hitter and striking out eight. Ginter was 2–2 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in.

While the Flora girls were reaching their conference championship, their male counterparts were dispatching Camden’s Bulldogs 8–4 and edging closer to their own region crown with a 17–4 overall mark and 8–0 league record.

“We’re beginning to play well again after a hitting slump,” said Falcon’s Head Coach Andy Hallett. “But our pitching has been our strong suit all season.”

Chachere Freeman (4–0) claimed the pitching victory. The other undefeated pitcher on the team, Ben Halligan, took a field position. Halligan, a Winthrop University signee, joined Brett Thomas, Addison Walker, Josh Wilson, and Justin Taylor in that category.

On Monday, another softball team adding triumphs was Dreher with a 7–6 win over Chapin. Caroline Leidy was the winning pitcher, backed up by hitting from Marilyn Sanchez and Sallie DeLoache, each with two safeties.

Cardinal Newman edged Wardlaw Academy 11–9 Monday, behind Crystal Hall’s mound work. Joanna Wilson had three hits for the Lady Cardinals (7–3).

Spring Valley’s Lady Vikings (21–3) had little trouble beating Sumter 7–3 as Megan Lakes won her 15th contest of the season. Laura Hauff, Casey Rodrigues, Jessica Carter, and P.J. Fulmer each scored two hits a piece for Spring Valley.

More baseball play saw Dreher drubbing Lower Richland 19–6 to open the week. The Blue Devils were 7–12 on the campaign. Winning pitcher Case Stiglbauer and DaMarcus Jones were the games’ top hitters. Both had three hits in four at bats.

Pitcher Jeff Francis was 6–0 on the season in Ridge View’s 13–0 win over Irmo. The Blazers are red hot at 19–1 this year.

Heathwood Hall won its third game of the season squeaking by Cardinal Newman 8–7.

Hammond dumped Calhoun Academy 12–2.

Hammond’s boys’ soccer knocked off Orangeburg Prep 6–2 Monday. The Skyhawks win gave them a 9–2 record.
