Bill Cloaninger, past president of Lower Richland Ruritan Club; Martha Amick, vice president; and Jay McAlister, president, fill care kits for wounded soldiers serving our country.
The Lower Richland Ruritan Club is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. The club continues to work on several service projects that impact the Midlands. One project reaches beyond the community and touches service men and women. The club has put together more than 60 personal care kits for soldiers who are in hospitals.
When most injured soldiers are sent to emergency care facilities, they have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Frequently even the clothes are torn away to provide treatment. The personal care kits contain simple, comfortable clothes, flip flops, dental and personal hygiene products, and a few extras like hard candy and decks of cards.
The members of the club hope that these kits will provide some comfort to the soldiers who have been wounded while serving our country.
